TRISKAIDEKAPHOBIA
The idea for the last book was a while
coming until a fellow calligrapher gave me the word: ‘Triskaidekaphobia’ a fear
of the number 13. I felt such an outrageous word deserved flamboyant treatment
so I lettered it in water onto heavy watercolour paper and dropped in acrylic
inks for a variegated effect. When it was dry I added further decoration with
random squares in various sizes stencilled with scraped pastel. The simple
concertina construction, with added end pages for the
colophon, make a subtle contrast to the exuberant letters.
